Precious, (refers to the text of the painting: the precious life of an insect). The painting shows an ultramarine blue beetle with golden sparkles, as if the shell were made of Lapis Lazuli, the precious stone that the Egyptians had used in so many works and decorations. The Egyptians associated the blue and gold color of the gem with the Cosmos, the starry night sky and the Gods, especially in the afterlife. The dung beetle was also considered sacred for its regenerative capacity. This painting is the fruit of my reflection on the value that man gives to life…considering only certain lives valuable. Or how many of us try to remove an insect from the house carefully before killing it? For the greater thing that is Life…we are perhaps also insects….
I made the work quickly and energetically, although it was not the first attempt. First I painted, a rhinoceros beetle, impulsively, after hours of underground reflections on death…once on the canvas the conversation with the colors and spaces led me to the current work.
